100 Days of #RadiCoolUnschooling – Day 12

This is gonna be brief. I need to get my booty to the kitchen and straight cooking. You see today is PanKwake’s 2nd party of 2018. She has one every month now. Yes, I said that we have a party every single month at #HomeCrazzyHome.

Parties and playdates have always been my primary strategy for her socialization. And when you are autistic that does not come as easily.

I started to type…since I de-registered her from school. Then I remembered even as a toddler we used to host spur of the moment ‘parties’ in the park in front of our apartment. We would go out to play and a few other #LittleHumans (kids back then) would show up…usually unsupervised. I would go into the flat and make sandwiches, gather up fruit that I bought in huge quantities from the £ veg man by the bus station, and bring out the Robinson’s drink mix. I would feed half the neighborhood.

PanKwake was still in parallel play back then. Even though younger #LittleHumans were already beginning to interact. But she seemed to enjoy having others around and occasionally she did join in, usually one-on-one though.

When I did de-register, we would host her school friends in our flat after school. I would make snacks and they would come play with her…sometimes until they had to go home to bed.

And I always had HUGE parties for…Halloween, Thanksgiving, and the Fourth of July. Smaller ones for Christmas, Valentine’s, and Easter.

But this year…with this amazing #HomeCrazzyHome…we decided to make it a more regular thing. It is a wonderful part of her #RadiCoolUnschooling…

  • PanKwake practice numeracy by counting out things to go in goody bags.
  • Uses her imagination to decorate.
  • Practices executive functions by planning and organizing activities.
  • Gets life skills by making sandwiches and wraps.
  • Plus her social skills in a safe, bully-free environment…which are superior to many neurotypical peers.

Today is a bit special though. We are hosting an Unschool Valentine’s Dance. Yes, you heard me right. An UN-school dance. I figured why should our #LittleHumans miss out on one of the few good things about school…the dances.

I am mostly cleaned and decorated. But still have loads of cooking to do. So I better run. But here is a preview….
